celebration for International Women’s Day 2019

We are at an exciting period of time where the world expects balance. We notice its absence and celebrate its presence. Balance drives a better working world and everyone has a part to play to #BalanceforBetter.

We have three key speakers who will speak to the topic and provide their view on the theme reflecting from their specific industry background. Short talks will be followed by a light refreshments.

Speakers

Anna Zycki

Anna Zycki joined Roads and Maritime in February 2013, and has worked across a number of agencies including NSW Police, NSW Attorney General’s Department and Department for Transport. Anna has a long standing association with the Hunter region having completed undergraduate studies at the University of Newcastle, and as Area Director for Housing NSW in the Hunter and Central Coast regions. Since joining Roads and Maritime Anna’s focus has been to support the process of organisational reform within the department, including a stronger focus on long term strategic planning and driving stronger engagement with Roads and Maritime’s key industry, community, and state and local government partners.

Nicholas Flatman

Nicholas Flatman is an Associate Architect at CKDS which has offices in Newcastle and the Central Coast. Nicholas has a keen interest in computational and detailed design and has gained experience across a wide variety of residential and commercial projects. Concurrently Nicholas is a PhD candidate at the University of Newcastle, School of Architecture and Built environment (SABE) and an alumni, completing his Masters of Architecture in 2014. In 2014 Nicholas was the recipient of the National Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship. Nicholas has maintained an ongoing relationship with SABE; teaching electives and tutoring in design. He is also spent two years as a joint coordinator of the Emerging Graduate and Architect Networks as part of the Australian Institute of Architects. With the goal to foster a culture of design and generate public discourse within the community.

Sandra Thompson

Sandra Thompson has 20+ years’ industry experience working in the fields of disaster resilience, humanitarian response and child protection. Sandra has a previously worked in global and domestic organisations such as the UN-Women, UNICEF Pacific, Save the Children UK and Australian Volunteers International. Sandra has led initiatives to reduce the vulnerability of women and children in post conflict countries. Her experience includes representing UN-Women at the first regional consultation for the development of global guidelines for response to natural disasters and humanitarian crises for people with disabilities; reviewing regional submission for funding through Women Peace and Humanitarian Fund for the Pacific region; and worked with multiple Government, NGO and UN stakeholders to develop and coordinate a responce system for internally displaced people in post conflict countries.
