Cultural Awakenings Festival / Current Students / Events / The University of Newcastle, Australia

Celebrate UON’s cultural diversity with three days full of activities at UON.

This year’s celebrations include our annual Parade of Nations, a food fair, cultural experiences, K-Pop Karaoke, free food, and some more new initiatives!

On Wednesday 10 October is the famous Parade of Nations: a celebration of the cultural heritage of UON’s students and staff. Watch or join participants as we wear the traditional dress of our home nations for the walk through Civic Park in the Newcastle CBD. The parade will be followed by food and cultural performances. Free buses will depart from the Maths bus stop at Callaghan at 11am and return from the city at 1pm.

The Cultural Awakenings Fair on Thursday 11 October is one of the most beloved elements of the festival. Park on the Hill will be covered in dozens of delicious stalls with free food that represent the vast array of nations from which UON students hail from 11.30am, while a number of cultural performances are showcased on the stage. The Fair highlights a small part of the different cultures our students and staff are part of, so strike up a conversation with someone new to learn a bit more about where we’re all from.

Like always, all Cultural Awakenings Festival activities are free!
