Definition Of Interjection:
An Interjection is a word which expresses some sudden feeling or emotion. Interjections may express.
They are used to express some sudden feeling or emotion. It will be noticed that they are
not grammatically related to the other words in a sentence.
(i) Surprise; as, ha! What!
(ii)Approval; as, bravo!
(iii) Joy; as, Hurrah! Huzza!
(v) Grief; as, alas!
Certain groups of words are also used to express some sudden feeling or emotion; as,
Well done! Good gracious! Ah me! For shame!
Examine the following sentences:
Alas! He is dead.
Hurrah! We have won the game.
Ah! Have they gone?
Such words as Hello! Alas! Hurrah! Ah! etc. are called Interjections.
Oh! I got such a fright.
Hello! What are you doing there?
Hush! Don’t make a noise.
